January 14th – The House of Representatives of the United States recently strengthened security and installed a new metal detector at the entrance, but it was ignored by many members of Congress, and one member even broke in directly with a gun.
According to NBC, on the 13th local time, several Republican lawmakers went to the House of Representatives to vote on impeachment. At least 12 Republicans ignored the newly installed metal detectors.
They either avoided or directly triggered the alarm and walked straight in. HuffPost reporter Matt Fuller said that Rep.
Gomert bypassed the detector, shook his head and waved the police to leave. In addition to installing detectors, the House imposed fines on members who did not wear masks and required members to carry guns only in their own offices.
New York Post reported that newly-incoming Rep. Lauren Boebert was denied entry into the House of Representatives when she was carrying a pistol to trigger a detector alarm, but refused to let the police check her bag.
However, she later entered the conference room, and the specific situation is not clear.
