January 18th According to the Associated Press on the 17th local time, Starbucks decided to close some stores in New York City on the 17th because of fear of possible riots before the swearing-in of the President of the United States.

In explaining the shutdown, Starbucks reportedly said it was out of “careful consideration” that many employees live in the suburbs and that if there is a protest that causes public transportation disruption, employees are likely to be trapped at home.

However, Starbucks spokesman Jessica Conradson also said that stores in Manhattan will reopen on the 18th.

It is reported that there were no major protests in New York City on the 17th.
