Colombia’s food and health care regulator Invima approved the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine on Tuesday, Colombian President Ivan Duque said in a video posted on Twitter, according to Bloomberg.
Duke said that AstraZeneca and Jansen’s vaccines will be reviewed later.
On December 30, Colombia completed the procurement agreement for 9 million doses of Jansen vaccine.
According to Xinhua News Agency’s previous report, Colombia’s vaccination work in 2021 will be carried out in five stages.
More than 11.83 million people, including medical staff, people over 60 years old, adults with basic diseases under 60 years old and primary and secondary school teachers, will be vaccinated.
Vaccination efforts will begin in early January 2021 and start mass promotion in February.
However, at present, Colombia’s epidemic prevention pressure is still severe.
The government has extended the national health emergency until February 28 next year, and the selective quarantine period has also been extended simultaneously.
