China surpassed the United States to become the EU’s largest trading partner last year

According to data released by Eurostat on the 15th, China’s merchandise trade with the EU last year (2020) was about 586 billion euros, making it the EU’s largest commodity trading partner.

During the same period, the trade volume of goods between the United States and the EU was about 555 billion euros, making it the second largest trading partner of the European Union.

Last year, the European Union exported 20.5 billion euros to China, an increase of 2.2% year-on-year; imports from China were 383.5 billion euros, an increase of 5.6% year-on-year.

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, Brexit and other factors, the EU’s exports to the UK fell by 13.2% last year and imports from the UK fell by 13.9%.

The UK is now the third largest trading partner of the EU.
