December 22, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked, the foreign minister-level video conference of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Iranian Nuclear Power was held on December 21. Can you introduce China’s participation in the meeting? What are the important results of the meeting?

Wang Wenbin said that on December 21, the parties to the Comprehensive Agreement on the Iranian Nuclear Issue held a foreign minister’s videoconference. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the meeting.

This meeting is an important meeting held at a critical stage of the situation on the Iranian nuclear issue. The foreign ministers fully communicated on the current situation and next step of the Iranian nuclear nuclear power.

State Councilor Wang Yi put forward four suggestions at the meeting to promote the comprehensive agreement back on track.

First, unswervingly maintain the comprehensive agreement. All parties should oppose the Trump administration’s extreme pressure more clearly, more actively uphold the comprehensive agreement, and be more proactive in the work of all parties to buy time and space for the situation.

The second is to promote the early return of the United States to the comprehensive agreement. The United States should unconditionally return to the agreement as soon as possible and lift sanctions against Iraq and third-party entities and individuals. On this basis, Iran fully resumes the implementation of its commitments in the nuclear field.

China suggested that the participants in the comprehensive agreement should consult on this issue as soon as possible. After reaching an agreement, consider convening an international conference between the participants and the United States to start the process of returning the United States to the agreement.

Third, settle performance disputes fairly and objectively. Iran’s decline in performance is about the reason. All parties should maintain unity, control differences, and safeguard Iraq’s legitimate economic interests.

Fourth, properly handle regional security issues. China proposes to establish a multilateral dialogue platform for the Gulf region to discuss the regional security concerns of all parties under the premise of maintaining a comprehensive agreement, and constantly gather consensus from easy to difficult.

All parties agreed that the United States should be urged to return to the comprehensive agreement and resume compliance as soon as possible, and no preconditions should be set for this purpose.

After the meeting, the foreign ministers issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to maintaining the comprehensive agreement and ensuring its full and effective implementation; regretted the withdrawal of the United States from the comprehensive agreement, stressing that Security Council resolution 2231 is still fully valid; the parties recognized the prospect of the United States returning to the agreement and stressed their willingness to work together and respond positively.

China will continue to work closely with all parties to the agreement, actively implement the joint statement of foreign ministers, strive to stabilize the Iranian nuclear situation, and promote the comprehensive agreement back on track to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
