December 16th to 18th local time, the WTO held a meeting of the General Council.
Ambassador Zhang Xiangchen, Permanent Representative of China to the WTO, delivered a farewell speech and expounded China’s position at the meeting.
In his speech on the 17th, Ambassador Zhang Xiangchen expressed China’s appreciation and support for the WTO reform proposal put forward by developing members such as the African Group.
Like the co-signers, we agree that the WTO needs to be reformed. One of the most important goals of the reform is to benefit a wide range of developing members, not to meet the demands of individual members who are upset about losing several lawsuits.
Objectively speaking, for decades, many difficulties have been overcome, and the vast number of developing members involved in the multilateral trading system have not benefited enough from them, the imbalance of international rules has not fundamentally changed, and the development goals set in the Doha Round have not been achieved.
