December 20, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau again criticized China for unprovoked accusations about the Canadian citizenship case in a year-end interview with the Canadian media, falsely claiming that China was engaged in so-called “coercive diplomacy”.
Canadian Defense Minister Sajan also said a lot about the above-mentioned case, and also claimed that China did not abide by international rules, and arbitrarily criticized China for developing relations with Asian, African and Latin American countries. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this.
I would like to emphasize again that Kang Mingkai and Michael, Canadian citizens, were arrested and prosecuted by the competent Chinese authorities according to law on suspicion of crimes against China’s national security.
The Chinese judicial department handles cases independently in accordance with the law and guarantees the legal rights of the above-mentioned Canadian citizens in accordance with the law.
Regardless of the political nature of the Meng Wanzhou incident, Canada is willing to act as an accomplice of the United States, and detained Ms. Meng arbitrarily for more than two years without violating any Canadian laws.
Canada is also gang-up internationally in an attempt to put pressure on China. Canada’s behavior is “coercive diplomacy”, which completely violates the basic norms of international relations and will never be obtained. Canada claims that China’s “coercive diplomacy” is purely to reverse black and white and confuse right and wrong.
I would also like to emphasize that China is committed to taking the road of peaceful development, adheres to multilateralism, firmly supports the international system with the United Nations at its core, and supports the international order with international law as the norm. China has joined almost all universal intergovernmental international organizations and signed more than 500 multilateral treaties.
China adheres to the equality of the country, big or small, strong or weak, rich and poor, and unswervingly develops friendly relations with other countries on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order, which has been widely and positively evaluated by the international community.
We urge Canada to take China’s position seriously, seriously reflect on its own mistakes, stop smear attacks on China, and do not go further and further on the wrong road. At the same time, Canada should immediately release Ms. Meng Wanzhou and let her return to China safely, so as not to continue to cause damage to Sino-Canada relations.
