Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan said in a brief statement late at night local time on February 24 that Defense Chief of Staff Art McDonald resigned voluntarily because he was under investigation by the Canadian Army’s National Investigation Service. However, Sajan’s statement did not indicate why McDonald was investigated.
It is worth noting that McDonald’s predecessor Jonathan Vance is currently under investigation for sexual misconduct.
Currently, Sajan has designated Wayne Eyre to act as Chief of Defence Staff.
The Chief of Defence Staff is the highest position in the Canadian military. Art McDonald just took over the position on January 14 this year.
