December 11th, British Sky News reported that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that it seemed “very likely” that it would not be possible to reach a “Brexit” trade agreement with the EU before the deadline for negotiations on Sunday.
During his visit to Blythe, Northumberland, Johnson said on the same day that breaking the deadlock in the negotiations required “greater efforts and greater changes” from the EU, but this is still “to be seen”.
“It seems very likely that we will have to seek a solution that is good for the UK so that we can do exactly what we want from January 1,” Johnson said.
Earlier that day, after concluding a two-day summit of EU leaders, European Commission President von der Leyen said that the EU and the United Kingdom “still have differences on basic issues”.
