Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently called on the United States and other rich countries to give up eating beef in an interview with MIT Technology Review magazine.
“I really think all rich countries should switch to 100% synthetic beef,” Gates said.
The British Daily Mail reported on the 16th that in order to cope with climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Gates believes that it is very important not to eat beef.
Cows and other ruminants produce a large amount of methane when digesting grass.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ruminants account for about 28% of artificial methane emissions every year. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that absorbs 28 times the heat of carbon dioxide.
Researchers believe that by the end of this century, global warming may cause temperatures to rise by 4 degrees Celsius, which will lead to catastrophic consequences.
But all walks of life are not buying Gates’ remarks. 726,000 people in the United States are engaged in the beef cattle production industry. If you don’t eat beef, it will cause mass unemployment.
Some netizens think Gates’ words and deeds are incompatible. Gates had previously clearly said that he would also eat hamburgers made of real meat.
Some netizens commented that Gates has enough money to choose what to eat, but the high cost of artificial meat will put economic pressure on the public.
