February 12 U.S. President Joseph Biden said on the 11th that the government has purchased 200 million more doses of coronavirus vaccine, but the vaccination project taken over from the previous government is “far worse than expected”.
Biden visited the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, on the same day, once again urging people to wear masks, while warning that the cumulative number of coronavirus deaths in the United States may exceed 500,000 next month.
He disclosed that the government has signed contracts with Modena and Pfizer Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. of the United States to purchase an additional 100 million doses of coronavirus vaccine from the above-mentioned companies.
Reuters reported that the U.S. government has previously ordered 400 million doses of vaccines, plus 200 million additional doses of vaccines, which are expected to vacculate about 300 million people in the country with two doses per person.
Biden said his team was “misguided” by the previous administration during the transition of power about the state of vaccines in the United States.
“When scientists were doing their jobs and race against time to find vaccines, my predecessors — I said straight — did not do his job well.”
According to the Democratic president, his predecessor, Republican President Donald Trump, was neither ready for the “great challenge” of vaccinate millions of people, nor ordered enough vaccines and rationally arranged for them.
However, Biden’s statement was refuted by former White House spokesman Brian Morganston.
Morganston told media reporters on the 11th that the Trump administration has made a vaccination plan ahead of schedule, and many professionals are still working for the new administration.
The United States is the country with the worst epidemic in the world.
Data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the 11th showed that the cumulative number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States exceeded 27.127 million, and the cumulative number of deaths exceeded 470,000.
