Biden is considering nominating former Chicago Mayor Emmanuel as ambassador to China

NBC reported on February 2 that three people familiar with the matter said that U.S. President Biden is considering nominating Ram Emanuel, the former mayor of Chicago, as his ambassador to China.

One of the people familiar with the matter said that becoming the U.S. ambassador to Japan was another option for Biden administration officials to discuss with Emmanuel.

Emmanuel served as the White House Chief of Staff in the Obama administration.

The Biden team reportedly considered Emmanuel as the transportation minister of the new government, but the latter was not eventually nominated for a cabinet position.
