According to AFP on the 6th, the Beninese government said on the same day that after submitting his presidential documents for the presidential election in Benin in April this year, he took a car to a farm 35 kilometers from Cotonou, Benin’s economic capital, and took a car in Soglo on the way.
He was shot, and he himself was injured in the process.
Soglo, who is reportedly being treated at a hospital in Cotonou, told AFP by a family member that Soglo is now out of danger, but to remove the bullets, he must travel to Ghana or Morocco.
Soglo said in a statement that after being attacked “viciously” and escaping, he is currently focusing on his rehabilitation and medical treatment, but without providing more details.
It is understood that Ganiou Soglo is the son of former President Nissefor Soglo and one of the 19 politicians who submitted election documents for the presidential election in Benin on April 11, including Patrice Talon, the current President of Benin.
