April 27 2021 Bangladeshi President Hamid met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe at the presidential palace.

Hamid said Mengzhong is a proven friend and a reliable strategic partner. Bangladesh attaches great importance to Bangladesh-China relations and firmly supports China’s core interests. The two sides should strengthen coordination in international affairs and work to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

He thanked China for its strong support for Bangladesh’s economic development and national defense construction, and expressed the hope that the two militaries would continue to strengthen practical cooperation in various fields and push for greater progress in bilateral military relations.

Wei Fenghe said that China and Bangladesh have been friendly neighbors since ancient times and bilateral relations have a long history.

At present, both countries are at a critical stage of revitalizing and developing, with a sound development strategy and broad prospects for cooperation.

China is ready to work with Bangladesh to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and promote the in-depth development of China-Bangladesh strategic cooperative partnership.

The two militaries have extensive cooperation and should further strengthen high-level visits, deepen technical cooperation in equipment, expand exchanges in professional fields and build closer military relations.

We should jointly resist the efforts of extraterritorial powers to piece together military alliances and engage in hegemonism in South Asia and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

On the same day, Wei Fenghe held talks with Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff Aziz to exchange in-depth views on the international and regional situation and the relationship between the two militaries.
