Austrian Chancellor Kurz said in an interview with Austrian National Radio and Television that after the current two “lockdown” measures ended on December 7, Austria will follow the model of neighboring Slovakia during the Christmas holidays.
Before the advent, a large-scale new coronavirus test was also carried out. In his view, Slovakia found a large number of asymptomatic infections in this way and quarantined them in time.
According to Kurtz, the large-scale testing will first be carried out for teachers, and then gradually expand the scope before the holidays. Because starting on December 7, schools and shops should be restarted again.
Currently, the Federal States and the Federal Army are preparing corresponding work, and the Austrian government will announce the specific testing procedures next week.
Kurtz said that how large-scale testing will be carried out mainly depends on the development of pandemic, but “the federal states must better track the infection chain” to effectively contain the spread of the pandemic.
According to the report, Slovakia has called on people between the ages of 10 and 65 to undergo rapid testing for the new coronavirus in the past few weeks. 3.6 million of the 5.5 million residents participated in the first round of testing, and those without negative test results will be strictly controlled.
Kurtz also revealed that the first batch of vaccination work may begin in the first quarter of next year. The Austrian Ministry of Health is currently making relevant plans and will give priority to risk groups and health workers. Vaccination work for other groups will follow.
