At least 5,000 National Guard members will remain in Washington, D.C., until mid-March, CBS reported Jan. 23.
The National Guard said in a statement that the current 7,000+ members of the National Guard have been asked to remain in Washington, D.C., and the number will be reduced to 5,000 by mid-March.
“We are providing security, communications, medical and logistical assistance to state and federal agencies,” the statement said.
The statement pointed out that the members of the National Guard are currently stationed throughout the Capitol, and the National Guard will continue to work with the Capitol police to protect the security of the legislature in the following time.
