A Melbourne, Australia, man trapped in India believes he has the right to return to Australia from India and has filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court of Australia, his lawyers say.
Arguing that the federal government’s recent travel ban restricting the return of Australian citizens from India to Australia is suspected of being unconstitutional. The Federal Court of Australia will rule on whether citizens are guilty of “going home.”
The Australian government has previously announced that visitors to India in the past 14 days will not be allowed to enter the country from May 3, and Australian nationals are no exception, with violators facing fines of around $50k or five years in prison, or both.
