An emergency search has been launched for 200 gendarmes who fled after unknown men shot dead two people in a southern French town

The incident took place at 8:30 a.m. local time on the 11th in the town of Les Plantiers, which has a population of about 260 people, Russian satellite news agency reported. Armed, the suspect fled the crime scene after shooting the two men.

After the incident, about 200 gendarmes rushed out to search for the suspect. Authorities in the town of Leprante urged residents not to go out.
