May 3 At least three people were killed in an avalanche in the French Alps on Wednesday. Rescuers are at the scene searching for anyone still trapped.
According to preliminary official information, the avalanche occurred in the southeastern French province of Upper Alps in the town of Villadalen, in the Alps. After the avalanche, the authorities quickly sent helicopters to the scene to rescue.
Rescuers found three dead at the scene, initially identified as two climbers and one as a guide. The site where the deceased was found was in a mountainous area at an altitude of 3,200 metres. Prosecutors have stepped in to investigate and local police have launched a corresponding investigation and evidence gathering.
France’s meteorological department warned wednesday of the danger of avalanches in the Alps and issued a yellow alert.
