March 1 – On theĀ evening of February 26th, local time, an American man refused to wear a mask to participate in the competition.
After a policeman dissuade him, the man actually took out a gun and shot him.
Corporal Martinus Mitchum, 38, a police officer in Louisiana, was shot dead while providing security services for a high school basketball game, the Daily Mail reported. John Shallerhorn, 35, is identified as a suspect.
The local sheriff said that preliminary investigations showed that Shalehorn refused to wear a mask to participate in the game and had an argument with the staff.
When Mitcham tried to escort Shalehorn out of the building, Schallhorn shot and killed Mitcham. Schalhorn was immediately arrested.
After the shooting, schools have been locked down and the games have been cancelled.
The New Orleans Police Department said in a statement that they received an alarm call at about 6 p.m. on the 26th and then arrived at the scene.
They found that Mitcham was shot in the chest. Mitcham was declared dead after being taken to the University Medical Center in New Orleans.
