December 22nd local time, a serious ammonia gas leakage occurred in Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Co., Ltd. (IFCO) in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India, killing two people and 13 others were still under observation in the hospital.

They were critically ill. Local media reported that the number of people sent to hospital may increase further.

Preliminary investigation showed that at about 11:30 p.m. on the 22nd, staff found ammonia leakage in the two working areas of the fertilizer plant and urea.

The on-duty personnel began to run around, when 15 people were unconscious and trapped. The investigation shows that there is an ammonia leak in the gas supply pipeline.

After arriving at the scene, the police rescued the trapped people and sent them to the hospital. Among them, two employees died after several hours of rescue.

Local media reported that the fertilizer plant has reported five gas leakage accidents in the past two years.
