Air Canada takes over Transoceanic Airlines

by YCPress

Transport Canada announced on February 11 local time that the federal government has approved Air Canada to take over Air Transat.

“Air Canada will abide by strict terms and conditions, which is in the interest of Canadians,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said in a press release.

In December 2020, Transoceanic said that the coronavirus pandemic had hit its operations hard, causing the company to face “significant financing challenges”.

In fact, the coronavirus epidemic has hit the entire air transport industry in Canada hard.

Air Canada laid off 1,700 workers in January and announced another 1,500 layoffs on February 9 due to the continued decline in its operations.

WestJet, another major airline in Canada, is also preparing to lay off staff.

The Canadian federal government recently asked all airlines to suspend all flights to Mexico and the Caribbean region until April 30 this year, which made the aviation industry worse.
