Acting U.S. Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller issued a statement on January 7 local time, saying that the protest against the conflict at the U.S. Capitol is contrary to the purpose of the U.S. Constitution and should be strongly condemned.
In the statement, Miller praised the Washington D.C. National Guard’s actions and said that the Pentagon would carry out its responsibility to ensure the peaceful transition of President-elect Biden.
“Our home was disrupted yesterday, but our lawmakers’ determination to protect the people has not wavered.
With the efforts and support of local and federal law enforcement and the National Guard, those who tried to stop our government from running failed in the end.”
“I strongly condemn the violence against our democracy.
I and other Department of Defense officials will continue to fulfill our duties as we swear by and will ensure the peaceful transition of President-elect Biden on January 20th.”
