On November 9, local time, according to RIA Novosti citing news from the Russian Ministry of Defense, a Mi-24 helicopter belonging to the 102 military base of the Russian military in Armenia was crashed by ground air defense fire over Armenia outside the Naka conflict zone.
Two crew members died and one person was injured and rescued.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan subsequently stated that this tragedy was caused by a misfire by the Azerbaijani military, and the accidental shooting down was not aimed at Russia.
The Albanian side explained that the Russian Mi-24 helicopter was near the border between the two countries. The two countries are fighting fiercely in the Naka conflict zone, and the situation is very tense. In response to the “provocation” from Armenia, the Afghan military has improved its combat readiness.
The above factors led the Afghan military to make a decision to shoot down the aircraft. Afghanistan extended its sincere apologies to the Russian side, expressed condolences to the families of the victims, wished the injured a speedy recovery, and was willing to provide corresponding compensation to the Russian side.
