May 3 2021, at least three rockets were fired at Bayred Air Base, north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, causing no casualties. Witnesses nearby said they heard between 10 and 12 explosions. Iraqi security forces then found a rocket launch platform nearby, with a photo of Suleimani, commander of the Al-Quds Brigades, a unit of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who was assassinated by the United States, and Muhandis, deputy commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Organization.
There are also some U.S. military personnel stationed at Bayred Air Force Base. There have been several rocket attacks on Bailead Air Force Base since the beginning of the year. Iraqi Prime Minister Haid al-Qadimi has called on domestic armed forces to stop attacks on foreign institutions and sites and to discuss the matter exclusively with U.S. President Joe Biden.
