Evening of the 3rd local time, Perez, mayor of Los Baos, Laguna Province, Philippines, was shot dead in the city hall.
According to CNN Philippine Channel and the Philippine Daily Inquirer, according to a report released by the Los Banos City Police Department, at about 8:45 p.m. local time on the 3rd, the unidentified suspect shot Perez in the head at the city hall, and immediately fled the crime scene. Perez was taken to the hospital and declared dead at 9:25 that night at the age of 66.
At present, Laguna Governor Ramil Hernández has condemned the killing on social media and ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. He said: “I express my deepest condolences to the family and voters of Mayor Perez. I strongly condemn the murder and call for an investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Philippine media pointed out that Perez had been included in the watch list of government officials suspected of participating in the drug trade, but he repeatedly denied this. In May 2017, Perez’s 48-year-old brother Ruel Perez was also shot dead. It is reported that Ruel was riding a motorcycle with another man on the highway, and the gunman on the other motorcycle shot him to death.
