January 13th – According to Reuters, on the morning of the 13th local time, a man with an axe smashed the front door glass of the New Zealand Parliament Building. The man has been arrested by the police and will face many charges.
It is reported that at about 5:30 a.m. on the 13th, the police received a report that a 31-year-old man armed with an axe attacked the Capitol. Police said in a statement that the man involved was arrested within about 10 minutes.
He caused some damage to the glass door of the building, but did not try to enter the building.
New Zealand parliamentarians are currently on vacation, when there is almost no one in the building. The reason why the man attacked the building is not clear, and the police are investigating it.
The man, charged with intentional injury and possession of assault weapons, will appear in Wellington District Court later.
