May 4 2021 Two people were killed and many others injured in a fire at a hotel in southeastern Moscow on Thursday, Russian media reported.
According to the Interfax news agency, there were more than 300 people, including about 100 children, at the time of the fire. The fire started on the first floor and covered an area of 100 square meters.
A total of 18 people were taken to hospital, two of whom died and two refused to be hospitalized, Tass news agency reported, citing medical sources. There are currently 14 people in hospital, two of them in serious condition. All the injured were poisoned with carbon monoxide.
The Moscow prosecutor’s office announced the same day that it had launched an investigation into the matter. After preliminary inspection, the hotel fire extinguishing system was in a state of failure at the time of the fire.
Russian media quoted sources as saying that the cause of the fire may be a short circuit or children playing with fire caused.
