Kabul, January 2 Afghan government officials confirmed on the 2nd that a bus was hijacked by militants in Herat Province, western Afghanistan that day.
At present, the hostages on the bus have been released.
Omarzai, the administrator of Rubat Sanji District of Herat Province, said in a telephone interview with Xinhua News Agency that at about 7 a.m.
local time on the 2nd, a group of militants stopped a bus on the road from the region to the capital city of Herat and took 15 passengers and a driver on it hostage.
Immediately after the incident, the local police launched an operation to rescue the hostages.
Omarzai accused Taliban militants of causing the incident.
The Taliban side has not yet responded to this.
