Middle East region report: Coronavirus pandemic in some countries in the Middle East region is still severe. Tunisia, Palestine, Turkey and other countries continue to take strict measures to prevent and control the pandemic.
The Ministry of Health of Tunisia announced on the 15th that there were 1065 new confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country, a total of 80404 confirmed cases and a total of 2345 deaths. The Tunisian government announced on the same day that the pandemic prevention measures enacted on October 29, including the implementation of curfews in the provinces, will be extended for another three weeks; unless necessary, the movement of people between provinces (except students) is prohibited; cafes and restaurants will be closed after 16:00; all will be suspended. Forms of public gatherings; mosque worship activities are prohibited.
Coronavirus pandemic data released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health on the same day showed that there were 976 new confirmed cases in the country, a record high in the number of new confirmed cases in a single day, with a total of 75,326 confirmed cases; a total of 640 deaths; and a total of 65,946 cured cases. At the same time, there were 406 new confirmed cases in the densely populated Gaza Strip that day, setting a record for the highest number of new confirmed cases in the region in a single day.
The official website of the Turkish Ministry of Health showed on the 15th that in the past 24 hours, there were 3,223 newly confirmed cases in the country, with a total of 414,278 confirmed cases; a total of 11,507 deaths; and a total of 353,663 cured cases. Minister of Health Koja warned that hospitals and medical staff have limited access to consultations. He called on the public to strictly abide by relevant regulations on pandemic prevention and control, wear masks and maintain social distancing.
According to Coronavirus pandemic data released by the Iraqi Ministry of Health on the 15th, there were 2,237 new confirmed cases in the country that day, and a total of 519,152 confirmed cases; 47 new deaths and a total of 11,670 deaths; and a total of 447,039 cured cases.
Riyadh Amir, the head of the public health department of the Ministry of Health of Iraq, said that the Ministry of Health of Iraq plans to deploy mobile teams in Baghdad and other places to improve the detection capabilities of Coronavirus, but the current high number of infections of medical staff hinders the implementation of this plan. In addition, Iraq’s current cold chain equipment is lacking, and the storage and transportation of Coronavirus vaccine in the country will face challenges in the future.
Qatar added 215 new confirmed cases of Coronavirus on the 15th, with a total of 135,785 confirmed cases, a total of 132,784 cured cases, and a total of 234 deaths. The Ministry of Health of Qatar issued a document on its official website on the 15th to call on the whole society to give more care to the elderly and patients with chronic diseases, requiring residents to observe pandemic prevention measures, reduce going out, avoid gatherings, and develop the habit of washing hands frequently and wearing masks when going out. Symptoms similar to the Coronavirus should be reported immediately.
Oman added 947 confirmed cases on the 15th, with a total of 120,389 confirmed cases, a total of 111,096 cured cases, and a total of 1,338 deaths. The Supreme Council of Oman’s pandemic Prevention and Control announced on the same day that mosques containing no more than 400 worshippers were allowed to open to the public.
According to data released by the Israeli Ministry of Health on the 15th, there were 402 new confirmed cases in the country that day, and a total of 323,741 confirmed cases; a total of 2732 deaths; and a total of 313,380 cured cases. Prime Minister Netanyahu said on the same day that he would make a decision after extensive consultations to enable Israel to “open up its economy and education without endangering the lives and health of its citizens.” The Ministry of Tourism announced on the 15th that it will designate the Dead Sea region and the southern tourist city of Eilat as a special “tourist island” and reopen the tourism and hotel industries in these two regions, but people will enter these areas A certificate of negative test for the new coronavirus must be presented.
