according to a latest document, Microsoft has extended the warranty period of the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 it sold last year. Previously, the warranty period of the handle was 90 days, now it has been extended to one year. If the user previously applied for repair service and paid the repair fee due to the warranty expiration period, the user will get a refund before October 31.
It is reported that in April this year, Donald McFadden from New York, USA filed a class action lawsuit in the Federal Court for the Western District of Washington, claiming that he had purchased the Xbox controller and found that the controller drifted within a period of time after using it. Then he decided to buy a second same handle, but after 3-4 months, the same problem appeared again.
Foreign media reported that DonaldMcFadden believes that Microsoft is fully aware of the problem of joystick drift, because the customer service department has received a large number of complaints, but Microsoft has not announced the design flaw and refused to repair the handle for free.
The complaint clarified the design flaws of the handle. The reason for the drift of the rocker was that the contact brush part of the potentiometer and the metal resistance material frequently rubbed and deformed, resulting in “drift” phenomenon. The complaint stated that Mcfadden’s experience was not a case, and a large number of complaints about XboxOne controller drifting have begun since 2014.
Foreign media pointed out that with the change in the warranty policy, Microsoft may be able to get the understanding of most players, but it remains to be seen whether the newly released hardware version has solved the root cause.
