The Bahrain Royal Family Office issued a message on the morning of the 11th local time, stating that Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, a member of the Bahrain Royal Family and Prime Minister of the Cabinet, died that morning.
According to information released by the Royal Family Office, Khalifa died in a hospital in the United States. The body will be transported back to Bahrain for burial in the near future. Bahraini officials will conduct a week-long national mourning and lower the flag at half mast in public.
Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa was born in 1935. He is the uncle of the current king of Bahrain. Since the independence of the Kingdom of Bahrain, he has been the prime minister of the cabinet until his death. He is one of the world’s longest serving prime ministers.
