According to the Myanmar Propaganda Department, at about 8:30 local time on December 24, a Burmese airliner flying from Yangon, Myanmar to Leigu Airport in Kaye State, was attacked by local civilian armed rockets. At the time of the attack, the plane was preparing to land. Fortunately, the rocket did not hit the plane, nor did it cause casualties or damage to the airport runways and buildings.
Local sources said that the attackers fired four rockets, landing 2,000 meters east and southeast of the airport. The passenger plane, carrying 64 passengers, returned to Yangon at 0855 hours, carrying 38 passengers.
It is also understood that local civilian armed forces issued an attack warning a month ago. They believe that Burmese Airlines aircraft have helped the military in transport weapons and ammunition.
