According to Indian media reports, the government of Trengana in southern India announced on the 20th that it would compensate 750 farmers per person (about USD4100) for their families who were killed in protesting against the three agricultural reform bills at the New Delhi border.
The state’s chief minister Rao also asked the central government to provide compensation of 250 million rupees (about 21.5 million yuan) to each farmer’s family, withdraw all lawsuits against protesting farmers, and introduce a law on the “minimum support price” system at the winter meeting at the end of this month.
Rao said that the financial expenses of 2.25 billion rupees (about USD 301 million) will be used to compensate. At the same time, he hoped that the farmers protest leader would provide a detailed list of dead farmers and called on all farmers to exercise “restraint and calmness” until the repeal of the agricultural law.
