Namibia’s “New Age” reported that on November 5, the Botswana Defense Force shot and killed a Namibian fisherman on the Chobe River near Imparila Island. The incident triggered a dispute among three countries including Botswana, Zambia and Namibia.
The commander of the Botswana National Defense Forces refused to apologize for this and said that three Namibians and one Zambian were suspected of entering Botswana to hunt and steal fish. The Botswana National Defense Forces are only conducting normal law enforcement and safeguarding the country’s legitimate interests.
Both Winnani, the official opposition leader of the Namibian National Congress, and Sambofo, the governor of Zambezi Province, expressed solemn condemnation of this, and believed that the matter was intolerable and would take corresponding measures. The Chobe River area is the junction of Botswana, Zambia and Namibia. Small-scale conflicts have erupted in several countries before, and disputes continue.
