Abidjan, August 22 Niamey news: Niger’s Ministry of the Interior said in a statement on the evening of the 21st, a village in the southwestern part of the country was attacked by unidentified armed elements on the 20th, resulting in the death of 19 civilians.
On the evening of the 20th, a group of unidentified armed men entered a village in Tiraberg province and attacked villagers holding religious ceremonies, killing 19 people and wounding two others, the statement said.
Niger’s Interior Ministry has stepped up security in the area and is searching for militants.
Tiraberg province is located on Niger’s border with Mali and Burkina Faso. In recent years, extremist groups and terrorist groups linked to the extremist group Islamic State have carried out frequent attacks in the area, resulting in a large number of casualties.
