August 20, a U.S. official told Reuters that the Biden administration was considering airstrikes against U.S. aircraft and other equipment remaining in Afghanistan. Asked for his views on the air strikes, several current and former government officials said the air strikes on the military equipment could affect U.S. plans to evacuate personnel at Kabul airport.
Representative Michael McCaul, Republican of Texas, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, cited the latest Afghan intelligence assessment and said it had been confirmed that Taliban militants had seized U.S.-made weapons from Afghan forces, posing a major threat to the United States and its allies.
It has been revealed that the Taliban are currently expected to seize 2,000 armored vehicles and 40 aircraft, including UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
