Burkina Faso’s government said in a statement on August 19th that 80 people, including 65 civilians and 15 government soldiers, had been killed in a terrorist attack in the Sahel region of the north of the country.
18, a team of soldiers, volunteers and civilians from the national defense and security forces was attacked by terrorists in Sum province in the Sahel region. The government said in a statement the same day, the two sides exchanged fire, 30 civilians, 14 government soldiers and 3 volunteers were killed in the exchange of fire, 58 terrorists were killed, the rest of the terrorists fled.
Burkina Faso President Kabore said in a statement on the evening of the 18th, will be the victims of the attack held 72 hours of national mourning activities.
Burkina Faso has had a high incidence of attacks since 2015 and the security situation is critical. On 4 June this year, two villages in the Sahel were attacked by terrorists, killing more than 130 civilians.
