Burkina Faso’s government said in a statement on August 18 that 47 people were killed and 19 injured in an attack in the sahel region of the north of the country.
The statement said that a team of soldiers, volunteers and civilians of the national defense and security forces 18 in the Sahel region of Sum province was attacked by terrorists, the two sides exchanged fire, resulting in the death of 30 civilians, 14 soldiers and 3 volunteers, and 19 others were injured. In addition, 58 terrorists were killed and the rest fled. At present, the manhunt has begun.
Burkina Faso has had a high incidence of attacks since 2015 and the security situation is critical. On 4 June this year, two villages in the Sahel were attacked by terrorists, killing more than 130 civilians.
