August 17th, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko commented on the situation in Afghanistan, saying that in the context of the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops, developments in Afghanistan are normal and natural.
Grushko also said it would be useless for the U.S. to spend trillions of dollars in Afghanistan. He also noted that Russia had suggested that NATO establish a cooperative mechanism in Afghanistan to deal with the crisis, but NATO was not interested in it.
Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zyrnoov said in an interview on the 16th that the Taliban in Kabul has established public order. Russia has found no security threat to its allies in Central Asia. Russia is ready for possible different directions of development in Afghanistan.
