NATO Secretary-General: If the Taliban seize power by force, it will not be recognized by the international community

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced on August 13th that the international community would not recognize the Taliban government if the Taliban were to seize power by force.

“NATO allies are deeply concerned about the violence caused by the Taliban offensive, including attacks on civilians, indiscriminate killings and other human rights abuses,” Stoltenberg said after a meeting at the NATO Council’s ambassadorial level. The Taliban must be clear that if they seize power by force, they will not be recognized by the international community”.

In addition, Stoltenberg stressed that NATO still supports a political solution to the Afghan conflict.
