Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas meets with U.S. Secretary of State Blinken in the West Bank city of Ramallah on May 25, local time.
Blinken announced that $5.5 million in disaster aid would be provided immediately to the Gaza Strip, $32 million in humanitarian aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and that the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem would be restored to strengthen U.S.-Palestinian ties. He also said he would ask the U.S. Congress for $75 million in aid this year to support Palestinian reconstruction efforts.
Abbas thanked the United States for its support and expressed his hope that the Palestinian-Israeli issue would continue to be resolved through diplomatic means, with the participation of the United States and within the framework of international law.
