May 16th, local time, Posbelov, a member of the Russian Military Industry Commission, told the media that by the end of this year, the Russian Navy will receive a total of about 40 ships of all types.
According to the Russian Navy’s armament development plan, four submarines, six large surface ships, 22 speedboats of various types and several support vessels will be included in the fleet this year, RIA Novosti reported.
Posbelov also said Russia will continue to build the 955 strategic nuclear submarine. According to the military procurement contract, the Russian Navy has so far purchased 10 submarines of this type designed by the Central Design Agency of Ruby.
The Russians will increase the introduction of the Type 955 submarines as the submarine program progresses well, though Posbelov did not disclose the exact number.
Posbelov noted that the number of submarines owned by the Russian military is determined by the limit set out in the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
