CA May 16 2021 A woman in Norwalk, California, won $26 million in a lottery ticket, but lost a lot of money by mistakenly throwing the ticket into a washing machine.
The winning Lottery ticket was sold at a convenience store in Norwalk on November 14, 2020, and the may 13 deadline for winning the prize was no one to redeem it, ABC News reported Friday. Store staff said that 12, a woman came to the store to tell staff that she put the lottery ticket in her pants, took to the laundry room to wash, the lottery ticket has been destroyed.
The store said surveillance video showed that the woman had indeed bought the lottery ticket, and copies of the surveillance had been sent to California lottery officials.
Cathy Johnston, the lottery’s official spokeswoman, said an investigation would be launched into the matter. Lottery officials also said that if the winner is certain to win, he must fill out a declaration form, but if the lottery is lost, provide relevant evidence, such as the lottery front and back photos.
The winning numbers are 23, 36, 12, 31, 13, and Super Number 10. The $26 million bonus can be paid in instalments each year or in cash of $19.7 million.
If no one claims it, the $19.7 million will go to California’s public schools. At the same time, the store that sold the ticket will receive a prize of $130,000.
Jorge De La Cruz, the official spokesman for the California Lottery, told the media that unclaimed super prizes are rare, with only four tickets over $20 million unclaimed since 1997, including $63 million in 2015.
