May 14th, turkey’s Karpowership suspended power supplies to Lebanon due to unpaid payments and legal disputes.
According to Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported that the company on the 14th at 8 a.m. cut off the power supply. In its statement, Cal Electric said it had been supplying electricity to Lebanon for 18 months without receiving any payments because of the difficult times it had been in. But no company can afford to continue to run at risk.
Last week, Lebanese prosecutors ordered the confiscation of the power generation vessel of the Carr PowerShip Company and fined the company. Cal Electric called the decision “unjust and illegal” and said it would stop power if it was not withdrawn. The company is understood to have been accused of corruption.
It is understood that Cal Power Supply supplies electricity to Lebanon through two power generation vessels, which Bloomberg says are equivalent to one-fifth of Lebanon’s electricity needs.
