Overseas network May 10, local time, 9 am, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, police arrested three U. S. troops in Japan, one of whom is suspected of drink-driving, and two people arrested on suspicion of breaking into local homes.
Both incidents occurred late at night, The Okinawa Times reported Wednesday. At about 2:40 a.m. on the 9th, Okinawa Police stopped a car on suspicion of drink-driving and found that the driver of the car had a taste of alcohol, and his alcohol test value was about 1.5 times the standard, and arrested him on suspicion of violating road traffic laws.
It is reported that the driver, 32 years old, confessed to belonging to the Kanagawa Prefecture U. S. military base in Japan, a soldier. He said he drank beer before driving and then water, so he thought “it should be all right.”
In addition to drink-driving, at about 1:50 a.m. on the 9th, Okinawa Police received a report that there were foreigners changing car tires on the side of the road in Naha City, which could lead to a traffic accident. When police went to the scene to question, two people suddenly fled and broke into the house before being arrested at 3.15 a.m.
The two arrested men, aged 22 and 20, said they were U.S. soldiers in Okinawa. One said it was terrible to be questioned by the police, while the other remained silent.
