South Korean civil society group “Japanese military comfort women to the International Court of Justice To advance the Committee” announced on the 5th, comfort women victim Lee Jung-hyun decided to Seoul Central District Court for Japan’s violations of international law to provide a “exoneration” sentence, and hope that justice and human rights can be won in the second trial.
Comfort women’s aid groups said the same day, Li Rongxuan filed a claim against Japan, aimed at the Japanese side should bear the legal responsibility to claim compensation, but the first instance judgment violated the principle of independence of judges, reneged on substantive justice.
On April 21st the Seoul Central District Court dismissed a claim against Japan by the victims of the comfort women, citing Japan’s immunity from national sovereignty.
