South African President Ramaphosa has signed the Audit Profession Amendment into law as an important tool to combat corruption in the government sector and the private sector, South African media reported on April 30, local time.
The Act gives the Independent Auditors Board greater powers, such as the right to enter and search any premises with the prior consent of the owner or controller.
It also gives the Board the right to summon any person to the audit investigation and to provide the auditor with the requested information.
South Africa’s finance ministry and the country’s largest national confederation of trade unions, Cosatu, welcomed the move, saying it would ensure good government and private sector operation and management.
