According to the Associated Press, the Chinese media listed as “foreign missions” by the US State Department this time include: “Yi Cai Global” (the English version of China Business News), “Liberation Daily”, “Xinmin Evening News”, Chinese Social Sciences Magazine Press (SSCP), “Beijing Weekly”, “Economic Daily”. The US State Department will require them to register as “foreign missions.”
The Associated Press stated that at a press conference on the 21st, Pompeo declared: “The U.S. State Department declared (identified) the six media headquartered in China as foreign missions. All of these media belong to or are controlled by foreign governments.”
Earlier, the U.S. State Department announced on June 22 that China Central Television, China News Service, People’s Daily, and Global Times had four Chinese media organizations in the United States listed as “foreign missions.”
At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 23, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated that this is another example of the U.S.’s naked political suppression of the Chinese media and will further seriously interfere with the normal reporting activities of the Chinese media in the United States. It also further exposed the hypocrisy of the so-called “freedom of press and speech” advertised by the United States. China strongly urges the US to abandon the Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice, and immediately stop and correct this wrong approach that harms others and disadvantages itself, otherwise China will have to make the necessary and proper response.
Up to now, the United States has listed 15 Chinese media as “foreign missions.” Including Xinhua News Agency, “China Daily” American distribution company, China International Television Station (CGTN), China Radio International, “People’s Daily” Overseas Edition US General Agent (Haitian Development Co., Ltd.), China Central Television (CCTV), “People’s Daily “, “Global Times”, China News Service, “Economic Daily”, “Liberation Daily”, “Xinmin Evening News”, “Beijing Weekly”, China Social Science Magazine, and “One Fortune Global”.
