April 27, local time, in order to support the upgrading of Mongolia’s health care system and mitigate the impact of Coronavirus outbreak on Mongolia, the European Union and WHO provided Mongolia with urgently needed medical materials and equipment for epidemic prevention, including medical computers, laboratory diagnostic equipment and new coronavirus nucleic acid test kits, within the framework of the “Mongolia Coronavirus Pandemic Prevention and Control Measures (MCCR)” project.
The handover ceremony was held in the morning at the Ministry of Health of Mongolia, attended by the Minister of Health of Mongolia, Enkhbold, the Permanent Representative of WHO to Mongolia, Sergei Diotica, and the Deputy Representative of the European Union to Mongolia, Mark Ferri.
Since March 2021, the number of new confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Mongolia has risen sharply in a single day, and the number of deaths has continued to increase. As of April 27, Mongolia has accumulated 32,437 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and 96 deaths.
In order to strengthen the prevention and control capacity of Coronavirus, improve the construction of public health service system, improve the testing capacity of national medical laboratories and the quality of emergency rescue services of medical institutions, and expand the scope of medical services, Mongolia will implement a three-year project on the prevention and control of new corona pneumonia in Mongolia from October 30, 2020. To this end, the EU provides 1 million euros, WHO provides 62,000 euros and relevant expertise to support.
